Features of the Index

The present Index contains all the Circulars (Notices) issued by the Department of Merchant Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus as on 1.2.2004, addressed to the following two categories of interested parties of the Cyprus maritime industry:

• the Owners,Managers and Representatives of ships flying the Cyprus flag;
• the Shipping Agents;

The Index is divided into two Parts:

• Part I is divided into two sections (A and B). Each section contains the circulars addressed to each of the aforementioned two categories of interested parties of the maritime industry. Each section contains the circulars in a chronological order i.e. in the order of the date on which they were signed by the Director of the Department of Merchant Shipping;
• Part II is a simple Alphabetical Index (subject Index) based on the component parts of the various circulars as they appear in Part I.

The Index in both its Parts refers to the date of issue of the circulars.

In Part I special footnotes give information about the status of the circulars (i.e.: superseded,amended,obsolete etc.).

On this point it must be noted that certain circulars,issued in the past, contain information provided by foreign authorities and various Organizations.Their status is uncertain,and therefore we are not sure whether they are still applicable or obsolete.In such cases, interested persons should directly contact the foreign authorities/ organizations for further advice on their status.

In Part II a Keyword may refer twice to the same date: this means that two different circulars on the same subject have been issued on the same date and have been addressed separately to two different categories of interested parties.
