Circular No. 20/2001

14 November 2001
To all Owners, Managers and Representatives of Ships registered in Cyprus
Subject: First Registration, Re-registration and Registration anew of vessels in the Register of Cyprus Ships - Classification Society´ s Statement proposing to proceed with the survey and certification of a vessel on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus
In an effort to standardize the documentation required in connection with applications for registration (provisional registration, re-registration, registration anew and registration under the terms of a bareboat charter) of ships under the Cyprus flag, we attach herewith models of class confirmation and statements required from the Classification Society of a vessel.
Unless it is otherwise specified in particular cases, Classification Societies recognized and authorized by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus have been notified and will invariably as from the 1st December 2001, use these model forms which should be addressed to the Registrar of Cyprus Ships (Facsmile Number: +357-25-848200 E-Mail: (dms@cytanet.com.cy) by the Classification Society with which the specific vessel is classed. It is clarified that it remains the responsibility of the owners or of the entity, which has assumed the responsibility for the operation of the vessel, to make the necessary arrangements so that the Registrar of Cyprus Ships is furnished with the required documentation.
Annex 1 contains the model form to be used in the case when the vessel is still in service and no change, at the time of registration, in the Classification Society (i.e. transfer of class) is foreseen. It shall also be used when a vessel is laid up, under repairs, or under any form of legal arrest.
If a transfer of class of a vessel is envisaged, the confirmation of class and statement to be sent to the Registrar of Cyprus Ships should be on the model forms provided for in Annexes 2.1 and 2.2. The losing and gaining Classification Societies as appropriate should send such confirmation and statement.
Annex 3 applies to new buildings and ships under construction.
As from 1st December 2001, the Registrar of Cyprus Ships will not process any applications for the registration of ships under the Cyprus flag which are not accompanied by correct statements as indicated in the attached models.
