Document of Compliance for the Carriage of Dangerous Goods
Circular No. 11/01
TEN 1/5
TEN32/6/7
27 June 2001
To all recognized Classification Societies
To all Owners, Managers and Representatives of Ships under the Cyprus flag
Subject: Document of Compliance for the Carriage of Dangerous Goods.
I would like to refer to the above subject and further to the authorization given to all Classification Societies recognized by the Republic of Cyprus on 12.02.1992 (copy of which is attached for easy reference), I wish to inform you the following:
All Classification Societies recognized by the Republic of Cyprus are authorized to issue the Document of Compliance referred to in Regulation II-2/54.3 of SOLAS 74 as amended.
Ships carrying dangerous goods as defined in Regulation VII/2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, must comply with Regulations II-2/54.1 and II-2/54.2 of the same Convention.
A number of States require the ships loading or unloading dangerous goods at their ports to be furnished with the aforesaid Document of Compliance, regardless of the date on which their keel was laid or their age.
It has also been noted that several ships constructed prior to 01.09.1984, are used for the carriage of dangerous goods without complying with Regulations II-2/54.1 and II-2/54.2 of SOLAS 74 as amended.
Having considered the above, this Department clarifies that all ships flying the flag of the Republic of Cyprus, whenever they are intended to or actually carry dangerous goods, must be furnished with valid Documents of Compliance for the carriage of Dangerous Goods.
