All Owners, Managers and Representatives of Ships under the Cyprus Flag
Subject: Applicable Tonnage for the purposes of Compliance with Chapter IX, SOLAS 74 as amended and with the ISM Code
In reference to the requirements of Regulation 2 Chapter IX (Management for the Safe Operation of Ships), SOLAS 74 as amended and of the ISM Code, where other cargo ships and mobile offshore drilling units of 500 gross tonnage and upwards should comply with the requirements of the Code not later than 1 July 2002; it is noted that vessels of more than 500 gross tonnage, measured in accordance with the 1969 International Convention on the Tonnage Measurement of Ships, may have also regulatory tonnage measured prior to the entry into force of the ITC 69 which is less than 500 gross tons. As the entry into force of Chapter IX of SOLAS as amended was subsequent to the entry into force of the International Convention on Tonnage Measurements of Ships, 1969, it has been decided that the Gross Tonnage of ships flying the Cyprus flag which should be taken into account for the implementation of the requirements of Chapter IX SOLAS 74 as amended and of the ISM Code, is the tonnage measured in accordance with the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships, 1969.
